Head of Development
Bob Kusbit is Head of Development for CMT, and leads all development efforts for the network, overseeing development teams in both Nashville and Santa Monica. Under his direction, Kusbit’s team has created a diverse slate of new programming, including the recent additions of DANGER COAST and GATOR 911, which represent the network’s first foray into the adventure programming genre. In a continued effort to expand CMT’s programming slate, he also recently spearheaded the addition of a West Coast-based Comedy team to develop sitcoms and reality-based comedy for the channel.
Since his arrival at CMT in 2007, Kusbit was charged with creating new original shows that would help define the channel and grow its audience. The network has created a variety of breakout hits under his leadership, including WORLD’S STRICTEST PARENTS and GONE COUNTRY, which brought together some of the network’s most beloved talent including Maureen McCormick, Bobby Brown and Carnie Wilson. Additionally, his team has been instrumental in combining the element of reality with music in a way that appeals to the CMT audience with such shows as THE SINGING BEE and CAN YOU DUET.
A veteran producer, Kusbit previously served as senior vice president of MTV production, and was awarded two Emmy’s for creating and producing the long-running MTV series “Made.” He created “Total Request Live,” perhaps the biggest music show of the 90s which propelled careers for such artists as *NSYNC, Britney Spears and the Backstreet Boys. In addition to his duties at CMT, Kusbit runs One Louder Productions, a highly-successful production company credited with producing such MTV shows as “Trailer Fabulous,” “Nick Cannon Presents: Wild ‘N Out” and “Boiling Points.”
Kusbit attended Clarion University in Clarion, Penn. on a golf scholarship, and began his career in live news production. A huge Steelers fan, Kusbit is a long-time resident of Pittsburgh where he lives with his wife and two children. He also volunteers for Genesis of Pittsburgh, an adoption agency, in his free time.
